Letter From The Publisher "Fashion is the instant language," said Italian designer Miuccia Prada. I must agree, as we launch our new magazine, which is full of great fashion, impeccable style (including a nod to our local boutiques) and great stories that we are anxious to tell. The days are getting shorter, a chill is lingering in the air and crispy leaves in their prime are painting a colorful backdrop for dozens of football games, fall festivals and family times ahead. It's autumn in the Bluegrass and time to trade in those fip-fops for boots and white shorts for fuzzy sweaters. What better way to ease into the season than to curl up in a comfy chair – by a freplace, perhaps – and read this latest Fall issue of The Voice magazine? In this issue, go behind the scenes of local news stations and get the scoop on some of Louisville's favorite anchors and news personalities. Read the stories you don't see on air and discover the frst words President Obama said upon meeting WLKY's Vicki Dortch, and how WAVE 3 troubleshooter Eric Flack found himself at the center of Ground Zero on our nation's darkest day. Imprinted in our memories and heavy on our hearts, WHAS 11's chief meteorologist Monty Webb's storm to end all storms was another solemn moment that hits even closer to home. But, the weather isn't the only thing that's unpredictable. See what happened when WDRB 41 sports reporter Eric Crawford wound up on the wrong side of the road with legendary UofL coach Denny Crum. While sports (and weather) may have its upsets and unexpected outcomes, Louisville's local doctors and salons are always on point. They reveal the latest products that moisturize, protect, enhance and most importantly, keep us looking youthful and beautiful. It's true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... and sometimes it's just undeniable. Indulge in a time forgotten as we open the doors to Louisville's latest design project that transforms a 20th century carriage house into a modern day architectural mecca. And as we're mixing things up, how about "shaken, not stirred"? We clink glasses with Prairie Vodka and sneak in some helpful tips on preparing a martini that would make James Bond smile. Then, get the news on "wood couture" from Bittners. For over 150 years, the Old World comes alive through the detailed artistry of craftsmen from Louisville's oldest design frm. Their hand carved and expertly crafted, high quality, stunning furniture stands the test of time and would make founder and master carpenter Gustave Bittner proud. We also spy the latest fall fashions, courtesy of our local boutiques, highlighted in the enchanted gardens of Louisville's famed Gardencourt estate. Think "A Midsummer Night's Dream" meets Garden of Eden and you'll have an idea of what the must-haves are for your closet this season. Fashion has evolved over the years, and handbags are no exception. Grace Kelly inspired the Hermes Kelly bag, other iconic fashion bags include Coach, Louis Vuitton and Chanel. You know the bags in an instant, but do they know you? FROST bags do. We're talking about the ultimate fashion statement that comes when you carry a truly unique FROST bag, painstakingly handcrafted by Lexington, Kentucky resident Jed Frost. There's something for everyone in this issue of The Voice. Do you have that martini or hot cup of cocoa in hand yet? Then start sipping and turn the page … you have some good reading ahead.
