Q&A; PhysiCians & sPas DR. LEESA RICHARDSON The vein TreaTmenT CenTer We knoW you offer a variety of facials that vary in cost. can you share With us some of the most popular facials and the benefits they offer? We offer a wide variety of chemical exfoliations that are customized to the needs of our clients. Whether your skin is sensitive, dry, oily, acneic, or aging, we can improve the look of hyperpigmentation, fne lines, and pore size. We use a variety of peels, including lactic, salicylic, glycolic, TCA, and many combinations of these. Many of our chemical exfoliations are only available in physician offces which separates us from other spas in the area. We use Skinceutical, Obagi, and glo therapeutics, among others. We offer dermaplaning prior to many services, which is a manual exfoliation that also removes peach fuzz. It is extremely popular. Some clients choose this treatment alone, which is followed by a soothing mask. All of our services require no downtime, and the results get better with each visit. We also have a new laser treatment called Clear and Brilliant - a gentle laser that refreshes the skin from the inside out that we are having great results with. The laser energy creates millions of microscopic treatment zones in your skin, replacing damaged skin with healthy, younger looking tissue. coolsculping is a revolutionary, nonsurgical contouring treatment. Who are the best candidates for this procedure and Why? CoolSculpting is an amazing new technology that freezes unwanted fat in certain body areas. The frozen fat is then slowly and safely broken down and removed from the body. You must have enough fat in certain regions, for instance the fanks or lower abdomen, for the device to suction this tissue and then freeze the fat. The ideal candidate for this procedure is close to their ideal body mass with stubborn pockets of fat that will not respond to diet or exercise. With two treatments you can eliminate 25 to 40% of the fat in the treated area. This is nonsurgical with no downtime. for someone Who is experiencing varicose veins or spider veins, What treatments are recommended and What is the recovery time? is there a certain time of the year you recommend this procedure done? Spider veins are considered cosmetic in nature and are therefore not covered by insurance. Sclerotherapy (injecting to shut down the vein) is considered the gold standard for treatment. Lasers tend to be more costly, more painful and less effective for spider veins on the legs. However, some lasers do work well on the face. We use an FDA approved molecule called Sotradecol for these treatments. There is a two week healing period during which a medical grade compression hose must be worn. Therefore, most patients opt for this type of treatment during cooler weather. Varicose veins are considered medical in nature and often are covered by insurance. An ultrasound scan of the legs needs to be done in a standing position in order to identify the internal source of the varicose vein. This is a pain-free procedure and usually takes less than 30 minutes. We now have minimally invasive procedures that can be done comfortably in our offce to eliminate these varicosities. Usually I thread a tiny laser into the internal source to close it, then either inject or remove the surface varicose veins. Most patients can have these procedures done and be back at work the next day. What neW technology have you been most excited about over the past decade and has given your clients great results? I am still impressed with the results achieved by endovenous laser treatment for varicose veins, but I'm also very excited about the new nonsurgical body contouring options available in the form of CoolSculpting and Trusculpt. Trusculpt is a deeply penetrating radiofrequency device FDA approved for cellulite treatment. It can safely treat areas, such as under the chin, that cannot be treated with CoolSculpting. Up to 25% fat reduction along with skin tightening can be expected in the treated areas with as little as two treatments. located at 201 Fairfax Avenue | 502.895.6600 FA L L 2 0 1 3 w w w. v o i c e - t r i b u n e . c o m | The Voice oF LouisviLLe 61
