Q&A; Physicians & sPas dr. tami cassis cassis dermatology and aesthetics center Can you share with us measures to take to prevent skin CanCer and the most effeCtive sunsCreens to use? While staying out of the sun altogether is the most effective way to prevent skin cancer, in today's world this proves diffcult for most. Nevertheless, there are other preventative measures we can take to help keep us safe in the sun. Most people do not wear sunscreen and those that do, are either not using the correct SPF or are not reapplying as often as directed. When exposed to direct sunlight, it is important to apply sunscreen approximately 30 minutes prior to being outside and then reapply every hour. Developing a learned habit of applying sunscreen on a year-round daily basis to exposed skin is important. If you know you are going to be outside for an extended period of time, you should always wear a brimmed hat for added coverage as well as a lip balm containing sunscreen. Wearing light covered clothing with UPF (Ultraviolet Protein Factor) is helpful and can be found at most sporting good stores. And never going to the tanning bed don't let your kids go either. The most effective sunscreens are broad spectrum which provide both UVA and UVB coverage. An acceptable range of coverage is SPF 30 to SPF 50, and read the labels of the products you're buying. The highest concentrations of active ingredients such as zinc, titanium, mexoryl, helioplex and avobenzone – in that order – should be listed. you helped develop simply B, md skinCare line. explain the Benefits of these produCts to those who are unfamiliar with them. Along with myself, Dr. Webb and Dr. Antonovich developed this product out of our frustrations with seeing skincare lines being sold using artifcial products, and not created by dermatologists. We knew we could do better. Our Simply B, MD skincare line was developed to be simple to use (hence the name). We all have strong convictions on the composition of the line and by mandating against animal testing and the use of artifcial compounds, it allowed us to produce an all-natural, American made, effective and affordable product. Our crystal clear contains jojoba beads used to exfoliate the skin, tea tree oil to help fght against acne, and retinol to help combat the aging process. As dermatologists, we understand that skin care is only part of the anti-aging equation so we recommend seeing your dermatologist for prescription strength products and treatments. Our new tinted moisturizer, with SPF, is close to market following FDA testing. We are proud of our products and cannot wait for the latest addition to our line to be introduced. Cassis dermatology & aesthetiCs offers more than the most advanCed treatments. what are some of the latest Beauty treatments you offer? Our new Peel Series has become popular. We have reduced concentration peels that can be performed the day of your event, without extended recovery time. To combat that extra fat you just can't get rid of with diet and exercise, we offer CoolSculpting. We also offer a complete range of prescription strength skincare in order to help you make the best choices for your skin. We also offer a complimentary cosmetic consultation to answer all of your questions prior to selecting any products or treatments. what are some of the most Cost-effeCtive ways to stay forever young looking? The most cost-effective way to preserve your youthful appearance is to protect your skin from the sun, refrain from smoking, limit alcohol intake, drink plenty of water and eat a healthy diet. With respect to your skin, exfoliate daily (with a natural, gentle exfoliator, like Simply B MD, which can also be found at Whole Foods, Cassis Dermatology and Aesthetics Center, Clodhoppers, and Hotlocks for $20) Do not be afraid to change it up every once in a while so your skin does not outsmart the routine or the products. Also, treat yourself to peels and facials. Start neurotoxins when you need them, and do not be afraid of fllers - they can do wonders for problem areas. In the end, your goal should always be to look the best that you can for your age, and only work on the areas that bother you. located at 9301 Dayflower street, suite 100 | 502.326.8588 FA L L 2 0 1 3 w w w. v o i c e - t r i b u n e . c o m | The Voice oF LouisviLLe 53
